Fun Food Faces

Today I'm want to share some FUN ways to spice up your plate by food art! My daughter I made these fun food faces one night & she LOVED them! There is A LOT of recipes out on the Internet for food art. You can do a key word search my typing in food art, edible art, bento boxes, creative sandwiches, food garnishing, ect... Here is the recipes for the faces.


Scarecrow Tostadas



Ingredients:
1 lb lean ground beef
1 16oz can Old El Paso vegetarian refried beans
2 tsp ground cumin
½ tsp garlic salt
6 Old El Paso tostada shells
6 ready-to-eat baby-cut carrots
12 cherry tomatoes
About 4 tsp sour cream
12 ripe olives slices
1 ½ cups finely shredded Mexican or taco-seasoned cheese blend
1 ½ cups chopped leaf lettuces
6 triangle-shaped tortilla chips (about 3 inches)
Red Bell Pepper

In 10-inch skillet, cook beef over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until thoroughly cooked; drain. Add beans, cumin, & garlic salt. Reduce heat to low; cook 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until hot. Meanwhile, heat tostada shells according to package. To assemble tostadas, spread ½ cup beef mixture onto each tostada shell. Place carrots in center of each for nose, red bell pepper slice for mouth, & 2 cherry tomatoes for eyes. Spoon ¼ tsp sour cream on each tomato eye; top with olive slices. Sprinkle ¼ cup cheese & ¼ cup lettuce around top edge of each tostada. Place tortilla chip on top of each tostada for scarecrow hat. Serve immediately. Makes 6 servings


Clown Face Salad



Ingredients:
1 ½ cups torn lettuce
1 oz sliced cooked ham, cut into thin strips
1 hard-cooked egg, shell removed, halved lengthwise
2 slices rip olives
1 cherry tomato
1 strip red bell pepper
3 ready-to-eat baby-cut carrots, cut into strips
Favorite salad dressing

Place lettuce on serving plate. Arrange “face” on top of salad using ham strips for hair, egg halves & olive slices for eyes, tomato for nose, bell pepper strip for mouth & carrots for bow tie. Drizzle with dressing. Makes 1 serving


Frozen Berry Ice Cream



Ingredients:
8 oz frozen unsweetened strawberries, partially thawed
8 oz frozen unsweetened peaches, partially thawed
4 oz frozen unsweetened blueberries, partially thawed
6 packets sugar substitute
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups n-sugar-added light vanilla ice cream
16 blueberries
4 small strawberries, halved
8 peach slices

In food processor, combine frozen strawberries, peaches, blueberries, sugar substitute & vanilla. Process until coarsely chopped. Add ice cream; process until well blended. Serve immediately for semi-soft texture or freeze until needed and allow to stand 10 minutes to soften slightly before serving. Garnish each serving with 2 blueberries for “eyes”, 1 strawberry half for “nose” and 1 peach slice for “smile”. Makes 8 servings
